School Meals / Milk

School meals at Howe Dell are locally sourced. Children are encouraged to eat healthy foods as part of our Healthy Schools and Healthy Eating schemes.

From September 2014 the Government introduced Universal Free School Meals. This initiative provides free meals to children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Year 3 and above pupils will still be charged for school meals. The cost of a school meal for Key Stage 2 is currently £2.80 per day as of April 2022.

Dinner money should be paid in advance of meals taken. Any debt over £20 will be referred to Herts County Council and your child will no longer be able to have school meals.

If your child chooses to bring a packed lunch into school we ask you avoid sending in any chocolate, products that contain nuts and supply water only as a drink. Please see the Packed Lunch Policy for further information.

School Milk is available to all Reception and Key Stage 1 children. Letters are sent out towards the end of each term offering milk and stating term prices. Please ensure you complete and return the slip before the 'return by' date in order to ensure your child receives milk.

Free School Meals

Families on a low income may be entitled to free school meals.  See the information below or contact Mrs Allgood in the school office for more information.
