Welcome to the Governors' section

Our Full Governing Body has developed to include an inspiring group of people, some who have been linked to Howe Dell School for many years, others who are new to post. They provide challenge and support to the Head and other leaders in equal measures and have been instrumental in 2 outstanding Ofsted outcomes for School and Day Care in 2017. Visits to learn from their work and attend Governor led initiatives are warmly welcome, following successful partnership working with other schools in Hertfordshire and beyond. Ofsted Sept 2017 noted:

'Governors support and challenge the headteacher effectively. They know the school well because of the quality of information they receive and their close contact. They make a valuable contribution to the ongoing development of the school.'

After COVID-19 Lockdown, Governors wrote to all staff to say:

'As a governing body we want to send our sincere thanks for all that you have done throughout Covid-19 pandemic. Our Howe Dell family has yet again given outstanding care from both on and off site in extremely difficult circumstances. Thank you again for the part you have played in keeping the Howe Dell spirit alive.'

Link Governor Visit 10th February 2017: Samantha Brown, Geography & ESD - Feedback received...

"I am just emailing to thank you for the opportunity to come into the school for a visit as link governor for geography and ESD. I had an insightful and enjoyable day and felt very welcome. Overall I was most impressed by the children’s attitudes and manners. The children I spoke to were polite, enthusiastic, full of ideas and proud of their roles and school, which is clearly encouraged by the supportive learning environment within the school. It was also great to see the end of the Assembly and hear and watch the excitement of the children when they heard about the new playground equipment that it is being installed.

I would like to say a big thank you to Miss Middleton and Miss Brien for organising a wonderful day at quite short notice. Their time and effort was very much appreciated.

But I would also like to say a thank you to the two Year 3 pupils who were kind enough to take me round the school in order to take photos of the Geography and ESD boards and who missed most of their morning break in order to do this. Finally, I would also like to thank the pupils who joined me for the Geography Pupil Voice Session and the members of the Eco Squad who met with me on the day.

Please could you pass on my thanks to all those involved".

Welcome to Debbie Cole as new Chair of Governors and Julia Ellis- Hall as new Vice Chair. First job: initiating the reaccreditation of our Governor Mark, with succession leadership planned for due to handover from previous Chair in the coming months.

NEW LEADERSHIP OF OUR GOVERNING BODY AND NEWS REGARDING MONTHS TO COME. A message from our new Chair of Governors, Debbie Cole.

Thank you for welcoming me as Howe Dell's new Chair of Governors which is a great privilege. I have been on the Governing Body here since March 2014 having been Vice Chair and parent governor previously. I am Link Governor for English and part of the Resources Committee where my background in HR comes in useful. Before moving out of the area I had 2 children at Howe Dell so I have experienced first hand what the school offers from Day Care to Breakfast Clubs and into mainstream schooling.

Outside of Howe Dell I graduated from University in Earth Sciences and have since gained over 15 years experience in recruitment and HR. I am now the Head of Resourcing for a multi-national engineering organisation which gives me a slightly different perspective to enhance my role at Howe Dell! I have a passion for people and learning and I look forward to working with you all over the coming months.

Debbie Cole

Response from Mrs Massey

'The staff especially Senior Leaders and I would like to extend a warm welcome to Debbie in her new role. We are also  delighted to announce Julia Ellis-Hall will support Debbie as Vice Chair, whilst after 16 years our beloved Brian Dummer (Mr Hatfield as known and respected in so many ways in our town) will stand down at the end of the year. More details to follow on how this tremendous commitment will be marked nearer the time.'
