What are Young Cultural Ambassadors?
This programme aims to increase opportunities for children to participate in the arts and culture, develop leadership skills, and create new connections between primary and secondary schools and cultural organisations. It supports children to champion and enhance their local cultural offer and increase engagement in cultural activity amongst their peers.
Howe Dell began the programme in 2013 with reps applying for positions in Years 5 and 6 annually . Children have previously had opportunities to visit the Royal Opera House, the Round House Theatre, University of Hertfordshire, attended a variety of meetings and workshops (both in school and externally), and taken part in a national sewing project.
The YCAs pitch their ideas to Mrs Massey at the start of each academic year. Previous events have included a story writing competition, Women from History Wonder Day and celebrations for Chinese New Year. As well as larger events, YCAs have also created resources to support cultural activity in school such as the Interactive Art Trail which uses QR codes to guide children around our site's wealth of art.
Eco Art Gallery 2020
The YCA were lucky to work with Mrs Middleton, Eco Squad to and Miss Madden to set an extended piece of creative home learning linked to our Eco-Curriculum. The results were displayed over 2 nights during our Spring Parent Consultation meetings. Enjoy the fantastic outcomes below!
