What are Young Cultural Ambassadors?
This programme aims to increase opportunities for children to participate in the arts and culture, develop leadership skills, and create new connections between primary and secondary schools and cultural organisations. It supports children to champion and enhance their local cultural offer and increase engagement in cultural activity amongst their peers.
Howe Dell began the programme in 2013 with reps applying for positions in Years 5 and 6 annually . Children have previously had opportunities to visit the Royal Opera House, the Round House Theatre, University of Hertfordshire, attended a variety of meetings and workshops (both in school and externally), and taken part in a national sewing project.
The YCAs pitch their ideas to Miss Prickett at the start of each academic year. Previous events have included a story writing competition, Women from History Wonder Day and celebrations for Chinese New Year. As well as larger events, YCAs have also created resources to support cultural activity in school such as the Interactive Art Trail which uses QR codes to guide children around our site's wealth of art.
Why not try exploring some of these cultural links at home?
To take part in a virtual tour of our Howe Dell artwork, go to the bottom of this webpage and click on the star links . Alternatively, use your phone to scan the QR codes placed around the building to get more information.
