Governors

Due to retirement from some long term governors, passionate about creating life long learners at Howe Dell, we have a vacancy on our Board. Are you keen to shape the next chapter in our already great school, supported by staff and with active involvement of our children? Please contact our School Office 01707 263291 or email admin@howedell.herts.sch.uk if you are interested in becoming a governor. We really look forward to meeting you to discuss this opportunity further.

Link Governors Meet Subject Leaders to Share Information About Their Subjects

Once again governors and subject leaders came together at our recent Full Governing Body meeting to discuss and share information about their subjects. The focus for the event was devised by the Curriculum Committee in conjunction with subject leaders themselves.

Following the evening, governors produced reports on their subject which covered areas such as marking and children's responses, vulnerable groups, funding, budgets and priorities. Yet again this was a fantastic opportunity for knowledge sharing and a very valuable event in the school year.

Governor reports have been compiled below.

Link Governor Visit 10th February 2017: Samantha Brown, Geography & ESD - Feedback received...

"I am just emailing to thank you for the opportunity to come into the school for a visit as link governor for geography and ESD. I had an insightful and enjoyable day and felt very welcome. Overall I was most impressed by the children’s attitudes and manners. The children I spoke to were polite, enthusiastic, full of ideas and proud of their roles and school, which is clearly encouraged by the supportive learning environment within the school. It was also great to see the end of the Assembly and hear and watch the excitement of the children when they heard about the new playground equipment that it is being installed.

I would like to say a big thank you to Miss Middleton and Miss Brien for organising a wonderful day at quite short notice. Their time and effort was very much appreciated.

But I would also like to say a thank you to the two Year 3 pupils who were kind enough to take me round the school in order to take photos of the Geography and ESD boards and who missed most of their morning break in order to do this. Finally, I would also like to thank the pupils who joined me for the Geography Pupil Voice Session and the members of the Eco Squad who met with me on the day.

Please could you pass on my thanks to all those involved".

NEW LEADERSHIP OF OUR GOVERNING BODY AND NEWS REGARDING MONTHS TO COME. A message from our new Chair of Governors, Debbie Cole.

Thank you for welcoming me as Howe Dell's new Chair of Governors which is a great privilege. I have been on the Governing Body here since March 2014 having been Vice Chair and parent governor previously. I am Link Governor for English and part of the Resources Committee where my background in HR comes in useful. Before moving out of the area I had 2 children at Howe Dell so I have experienced first hand what the school offers from Day Care to Breakfast Clubs and into mainstream schooling.

Outside of Howe Dell I graduated from University in Earth Sciences and have since gained over 15 years experience in recruitment and HR. I am now the Head of Resourcing for a multi-national engineering organisation which gives me a slightly different perspective to enhance my role at Howe Dell! I have a passion for people and learning and I look forward to working with you all over the coming months.

Debbie Cole

Response from Mrs Massey

'The staff especially Senior Leaders and I would like to extend a warm welcome to Debbie in her new role. We are also  delighted to announce Julia Ellis-Hall will support Debbie as Vice Chair, whilst after 16 years our beloved Brian Dummer (Mr Hatfield as known and respected in so many ways in our town) will stand down at the end of the year. More details to follow on how this tremendous commitment will be marked nearer the time.'

Governors have the chance to meet ahead of the latest Full Governing Body meeting to discuss their link subjects with their respective subject coordinators.  This is an invaluable event which allows for a full and rich dialogue. The questions for the focussed discussion this time around were set by the Curriculum Committee at its last meeting. Each Governor, following the evening, then produces a report on their link subject - an example of which you can find below.
